Happy Birthday To Me

The first quarter was a high. It had the melodic riffs of a Jimi Hendrix and the timelessness of The Beatles. The drums were heartpounding like that of the Rolling Stone. The vocals were belted out loudly but clearly enunciated like that of Linkin Park.
It was a little bit Rock N Roll.

The second quarter was lyrically magical, like that of an Aretha Franklin. The vocals were difficult to follow, often shifting from lows to highs to beyond like that of a Macy Gray. There was sax, there was violin, ocassionally there was harp and, surprisingly, some a capella.
It was a little bit Soul.

The third quarter was a preppy, happy and hard to hate regardless if you were punk, emo or on the metal side. The beats forces the fingers to tap with it like that of a Chicago. The lyrics were playful and yes, happy like that of the The Foundations.
It was a little bit 70s.

The last quarter had harsh vocals like that of a Stone Temple Pilots. The lyrics were full but still didn’t approximate the meanings. Not many were into it, fewer dig it like that of the Devics.
It was a little bit Alternative.

I don’t know if some of the songs or portions of it, at the very least, will ever be revived. I will leave that to destiny to decide. However, just like every other song, some lines, some sounds, some performances will forever leave a mark. My 25th was exactly that. The intensity of which I will only know in the future.

For now, I have my 26th year to look forward to – 365 days of it - lots of moments where new music will be created, lots of opportunities to sing new songs, write new lyrics and maybe even create new genres.

So for all of us – may we all create beautiful melodies that will eventually be a part of the soundtrack of our lives.
